Our Story
In mid 2017 whilst driving around the Vale, co-owners Johnny Homfray and Paul Burnell came across the 4 Bells Pub in St Athan and decided to pop in for a quick drink. Whilst there, they were made aware that it was for sale and within a few months, on 22nd December 2017 they took ownership and The Roost on Rock Road was born.

With the vision of transforming this quaint yet dated pub into a contemporary yet proudly traditional Welsh pub and restaurant with rooms, in March of 2018 renovations commenced. The concept was to create a destination which is homely and warm, serving locally sourced delicious food and one of the finest selections of beers, wine and spirits in the Vale.

Shortly after opening, the global pandemic was upon us. Whilst it stalled progress, the team persevered, adapting service options and refocusing on the building work. Spring 2023 saw the opening of the accommodation and the final puzzle piece was in place.
Jo joined the team to oversee the hospitality management of the growing business and her presence became integral across the venue. In summer 2023, Jo and her husband, Andrew, took over ownership and management of The Roost. The venue was very proudly handed over for the next leg of it's journey. A very new but exciting challenge, Jo and Andrew have already made their mark, continuing to develop the brand and establishing the venue as one of the leading culinary destinations in The Vale.
We continue to work closely with local suppliers, we are committed to sourcing only the best seasonal produce, championing the best that Wales has to offer. Quality is at the heart of our offering, so Eat, Drink, Relax at The Roost. Our story continues...
